Gordon & Breach Cancellation Policy

Here is some information we recently received about Gordon & Breach's
cancellation policy, that I thought SERIALST readers might benefit from
knowing.
We cancelled the title w/1995 and tried to get a credit. The subscription
cost over $1000. The following is our vendor's response (slightly edited,
and with vendor's permission).
********************
...I contacted Gordon & Breach (International Publishers Distributors)
this morning: your request to cancel [title]. The publisher will accept
the cancellation for Volume 24. But they will not make a cancellation
for Volume 23 since it has already been published. I explained to her
that your library hasn't rec'd any issues of Volume 23 but that didn't
seem to matter to her, she said that she would send all issues of
Volume 23 today. Please allow 6-7 weeks for receipt...
G&B (IPD) new policy indicates that they will accept cancellations, but
there is a huge BUT with that new policy. I will type their cancellation
policy as it appears on their info.
"Upon publication of the first issue, paid subscriptions cannot be re-
funded. Cancellation of paid subscriptions will not take effect until
the end of the service period (volume block) for which payment has been
made. Subscription orders which have been duplicated by error may be
cancelled if requested in writing. A credit note will be issued for the
purchase of another International Publishers Distributor title. A
service charge equal to 15% of the invoice total will be deducted from
the credit to be issued. Publications discontinued by the publisher will
be credited for the value of the unserved portion of the volume block."
