Subject: NISO Standard for publishing papers
Steve,
NISO standard Z39.48 (1992) deals with this. The description in the
catalog reads this way:
"Serial publications are vital to research records. However, many
serials from the 19th and 20th centuries have been lost because these
publications were printed on highly acid, unstable paper. Paper deterioration
is still a problem; however, it is no longer a mystery. This standard sets
the basic criteria for coated and uncoated papers that will last several
hundred years under normal use. It covers pH value, tear resistance,
alkaline reserve and lignin threshold. Recycled papers will meet the
criteria specified."
