Subject: SIRSI & Serials
HI Serials folk, et al!
I am interested in hearing from sites who have converted to Sirsi's Unicorn
serials check-in system either from a manual or 1st generation system.
Since the Unicorn listserv has died, I posting the following questions here
with the experts! We are converting early in 1996 and are in the process
of completing questionaires as I write.
(1) Are sites using the "category 1" and "category 2" statistical
classifications? If so, what types of info are you gathering under each?
(2) How flexible are the notes fields in the serials check-in record?
What types of notes are being used in the check-in record? Can they be
used in the public display?
(3) How are sites listing/displaying their holdings (ie. one line or detailed)?
(4) What types of problems did you run into while converting and how were
they resolved?
(5) What interim proceedures were instituted during the cut-over to Sirsi?
If you halted serials check-in in the old system and began check-in in
Sirsi before bringing up the new OPAC, how did patrons/users react?
Thank you for any info I can get. If requested or warranted, I will
summarize for the list or for individuals.
BOO!
Paula
