We have had numerous headaches from NeoData, the company in Boulder,CO.
Normally, we do our claiming through Faxon. We always include vol., no.,
and date on all of our claims (or of much of that as is available).
Invariably, on NeoData claims, we get a postcard in reply requesting that
we restate the claim by date (which we already have done!). After going
back and forth a few times, we usually get another card stating that the
issue is no longer available. On those few occasions where we actually
get a card saying that they will mail the issue, we rarely actually
receive it.

I have called the 800 number to reach NeoData direct when contacting them
through Faxon didn't work or I got fed up with the process. This does seem
to work better, but it is still a very slow, time-consuming process for them
to find our account and understand our problem. The best part about calling
NeoData is that after going through all the rigamarole, they will sometimes
give a name or address of the publisher. At that point, you have to explain
everything again but the problem usually is resolved. I don't know how
helpful this is, but at least you know others are experiencing the same
problem.

Steve:

I've been in serials for 12 years now and from the very beginning thought
thouse fulfillment house cards a delaying action, because as you say, by
the time you send a second card with again the same information you sent
the first time, the issue is out of print. Sooooo, what I do now, is I
claim the issue is damaged in the mail and please send a replacement
copy. I do this through Ebsco, most of my claims are through them, and
it seems to work. I haven't had one of those cards in a couple of years
(knock on wood!)

I haven't seen this one, exactly, but I have had a request to specify the
month/year of the issue, when I've claimed vol. & no. Which, when you
think about it, is a good idea; the problem, of course, is for those of us
dealing with NOTIS/LSER and their teeny-tiny message space allottment.

And along with THAT comment, then, I'll add that I send out two-page claims
fairly often and just generated my first three-page one (LSER non-familiars:
there are only a few sentences on each page--all NOTIS allows) just to get
it all in. And I highlight.
