We have no problem with our barcodes adhering to buckram covers. We
place the barcode on the lower left front cover.

The only reason that we barcode our bound periodicals is for
inventory and statistical purposes. They do not check out, not even
to faculty.  The cost of replacing volumes that get checked out and
never returned would be prohibitive.
