? How to properly identify holdings for J of Chromatography Hannah King 05 Sep 1995 20:07 UTC

We print a serials list for patron use which is stripped to one line
that includes title, volumes held, and year range. We try to follow
the Medline listing because most of our users used Medline for literature
searching. We shelve alphabetically by title so the list is alphabetically
arranged. If the Medline listing is different from the shelving arrangement
we add a parenthetical note (shelved under ...).

Most people find the "Red Book" easy to use because we keep it relatively
clean of bibliographic data not necessary to answer most questions about
our holdings. Now we are faced with how to list the troublesome
J of Chromatography, J of Chromatography Part A, J of Chrom Part B,
and the other supplementary components that accompany this title.

Part B used to be bound with the main title and at that time even though
both sections were divided into A and B they were listed under one title.
However, each section is quite distinct. In 1993, the single title split
into two distinct sections, but the Part B was not published until
1995. We will be binding separately in the future.

Anyone want to suggest a really clear way to explain what we have and
where it is shelved?
