In the case of professional/membership journals, it is a violation of the
membership to donate to a library within three years.  Their (the association)
logic, I suppose, is that the professional is, ideally, the only one to use
that copy.  Libraries pay a higher sub. rate because of multiple users.  I
learned this several years back when questioning the association which
publishes "Plant Physiology."  They explained their position to me in detail.
We do, however, accept many gifts of gen'l interest/popular titles.  But we
hesitate to accept current professional/scientific journals on a gift basis.
