Mr. Gil and fellow Serialsts,
(Sorry Mr. Gil, but I think this is worth discussing on the Listserv.)
I have worked closely with Faxon, through three representatives for the past
seven years. I have always received good service, and the majority of the
time...GREAT service. In the past, I have also worked with other vendors.
In talks with other librarians, I have determined that it is a mixture of the
company AND the representatives that you deal with, not just the company. In
other words, I have heard good and bad things about each of these, and other
companies.
I am a firm believer in, if you aren't satisfied with the service, than do
some complaining. I have rarely had to do any, but I know of some cases where
this resulted in libraries getting assigned different representatives (or
improved discounts). If you have a huge subscription load like we do, I would
sure think twice or thirty-four times before going through all the trouble of
switching vendors.
Bottom line: Talk to them some more before you move on.
