ALA Meeting Announcement: ALCTS AS Acquis. Librarians/Vendors DG JoAnne Deeken 12 Jun 1995 17:03 UTC

The ALCTS AS Acquisitions Librarians/Vendors of Library Materials
Discussion Group will meet Sunday, June 25, at 8:30 A.M. in the Hyatt
Gold Coast Room. The main topic of discussion will be consolidation.
Is it more or less advantageous for a library to consolidate their
monographic orders, their serial orders, or both with one vendor? What
are the long-term effects of consolidation for both the vendor and the
library? Are the more specialized needs of the library (tapes of bib-
liographic records; invoices in electronic form; shelf-ready books)
pushing us in the direction of consolidation? What are the effects on
the marketplace if consolidation increases? Deana Astle of Clemson
University will present some of the advantages and disadvantages for
both the library and the vendor, but the session is designed to be an
open discussion from all attendees. Line up your arguments and come
prepared to take part in a lively discussion on the topic.
