We're on NOTIS and use their claiming codes; the gift subscription codeage
reads, "Our records indicate we normally receive the above title on a gift
basis. We have not yet received (vol. & no./date). Please send or advise.
Thank you."
If it's something we haven't received for awhile, I put (vol.#, no.# ff.).
It works fairly well--at least, as well as any other claiming.
We don't send claims to professors or other such donors, though. I put a
L-O-N-G grace period on issues; only if we are missed for months and months
might I gently call and ask if he/she is still planning to donate this
title.
I think they really like hearing their donation is wanted, used and missed.
The last time a donor professor showed up in my office, I exclaimed, "Oh,
did you bring me a present?" thinking it was his semi-annual issue dropoff
time, and he grinned from ear to ear, replying, "no" but he'd get the
issues over post haste.
I also have a question: Does anyone else get gift subscriptions through
EBSCO via Subway (the sandwich shops)? Experiences? (Or Ebsco and other
corporate donors) Do you have the address for the Subway dept. that takes
care of this?
We've had this for several years and the track record is pretty bad. This
year 3 out of our 10 subscriptions were never received. Previously we've
received 2 or 3 issues and no more, on a two year subscription. Ebsco is
pleasant enough, and replies politely to our claims and questions, but
seemingly unable or unwilling to perform.
This is costing corporate donors big bucks, and one would think they'd like
to know if 20-30% of their dollars are going down the drain.
Gosh, I like this forum!
