I am addressing myself to the small audience of librarians out
there who have made the migration from Faxon's MicroLinx serials
system to the Innovative Interfaces Inc. integrated library
system (hereafter III). Old Dominion University Library is in the
process of planning a migration from MicroLinx 5.0/Route 3.0 to
the III system. I am seeking information about others'
experiences with such a migration who would be willing to respond
to the following survey. Please respond to me directly; I will
summarize for the list.

1.   What version of MicroLinx were you using when you migrated
     to III?

2.   Did Innovative provide a loader program to load the
     MicroLinx extract into the III serials/acquisitions modules?

3.   If your answer to 2 is yes, how well did the pattern records
     from MicroLinx load into III? In other words, was there a
     lot of manual "clean-up" work required to set up the pattern
     records in III?

4.   If your answer to 3 is that there was a lot of manual work
     involved, do you feel in hind-sight that it would have been
     easier to have just manually set up the pattern records in
     III rather than using the MicroLinx extract? In other words,
     did the extract increase or decrease the work load?

5.   If your answer to 2 is yes, how well did the invoice
     information load into III? In other words, was there a lot
     of manual "clean-up" work required to make the invoice
     information intelligible and usable in III?

6.   If your answer to 5 is that there was a lot of manual work
     involved, do you feel in hind-sight that it would have been
     easier to have just manually entered the invoice information
     into III rather than using the MicroLinx extract? In other
     words, did the extract increase or decrease the work load?

7.   If your MicroLinx had the optional routing module, did the
     routing information transfer to III?

8.   If your answer to 7 is yes, how well did the transfer go? In
     other words, was there a lot of manual "clean-up" work
     required to make the routing information usable for III?

9.   If your answer to 8 is that there was a lot of manual work
     involved, do you feel in hind-sight that it would have been
     easier to have just manually enter the routing information
     into III rather than using the MicroLinx extract? In other
     words, did the extract increase or decrease the work load?

10.  How well did the Title and Copy screen fields from MicroLinx
     transfer, e.g. the CURR SHELF, PERM SHELF, COMPRESS, NOTES,
     etc.? In other words, was the information contained in these
     fields transferred to III in a usable manner?

11.  Finally, did the migration result in any substantial
     workflow changes from the way workflow was with MicroLinx?

12.  Any additional comments are welcomed.
