NEW ENGLAND COLLECTION MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE
Wellesley, MA
July 27-29, 1995

Objective: To provide an overview of the major issues in the planning,
development, and management of library collections in a radically
changing and challenging environment; to provide up-to-date and practical
training which meets user needs and maximizes financial and human
resources. In addition to treating traditional collection
development concerns, special attention will be directed to equipping
collection development librarians to work with information in
electronic formats and resource sharing environments.

Methods: Papers, panel discussions and issue sessions will be among
the variety of instructional techniques employed. Meals, breaks and
social events will provide additional opportunities for participants
to meet and talk with others and will encourage discussion of
collections issues throughout the institute.

Audience: The institute is designed for all practicing librarians, at
various stages in their careers, who deal with collection management
issues on a regular basis. The issues treated will be useful for
librarians in variety of settings.

Sponsors: Some events at this institute are generously underwritten
by EBSCO Subscription Services and Yankee Book Peddler.

Fees:  $225 for ALA-ALCTS members; $270 for ALA personal members;
$315 for non-ALA members.

Institute Resident or Commuter packages: Resident housing will be
provided in a recently-renovated dormitory on the Wellesley College campus
for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights. To apply, fill out the
attached Housing Registr ation Form, include payment, and mail to the
ALCTS Office. Forms postmarked by June 30, 1995 will be accepted for
housing registration (up to the 55 person limit). Cancellations will be
accepted until July 5, 1995. No refunds will be extended to no shows or
cancellations received after the July 7, 1995 deadline.

   * The resident package of $195 (singles only) includes lodging,
breakfasts, lunches, an Institute dinner. It also includes the use
of the Wellesley College facilities: the Keohane Sports Center, Lake
Waban Beach, and the Wellesley College Library.
   * The commuter package of $65 covers three lunches, and an
Institute dinner.

Both packages include curriculum materials, on-campus parking, and
an Institute dinner.

Setting: Wellesley College is situated on a 500-acre suburban campus,
12 miles west of Boston, on the shores of Lake Waban. In a setting of
woodlands, hills and meadows, an arboretum, ponds, footpaths and
fitness trails, participants will have a chance to interact with their
colleagues in an informal environment. Participants are encouraged
to dress casually and to enjoy the natural and cultural resources that
Wellesley offers.

Cancellation: Institutes are offered on a cost-recovery basis and may
be canceled if there is insufficient registration. If an activity is
canceled, the sponsors cannot be responsible for cancellation/change
charges assessed by airlines and travel agencies.

Registration: Registration will be limited to 100 persons and is
not limited by geographic location nor by size or type of library.
To apply, fill out the attached Registration Form, and include
