Subject: Shifting Journals

Dear People,

I would like some feedback as to how other libraries weed and shift there
bound journals. We have about 400 titles. We have weeded out numerous
journals this past year and I was instructed by my supervisor to leave
room after each journal title for five more years of volumes.

I had thought that you start from "A" and work you way back to "Z" but
I was told to start in the middle and shift toward "A" We had two strong
male
volunteers doing this but it didn't seem to work. We kept running out of
space. So my supervisor gave me instruction to weed out more volumes
to make room.

This project came to a standstill when the volunteers moved on to
something else.

So, I'm wondering how other libraries handle this. I have only worked in
a library for 1 1/2 years so any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

Rose M. LaJudice
