Subject: Pattern records

This message is crossposted to Unicorn-L.

We are a large multi-branch, academic library system who has recently signed
with SIRSI to implement their Unicorn integrated library system. I am
coordinating the implementation of the serials module for the library
system. Serials activities in the main library is manual, so we are
faced with creating serial control records for approximately 10,000
titles from scratch.

We are investigating the possibility of obtaining/purchasing pattern
records for our serials titles which could be loaded into the system. I
have contacted two subscription vendors to see whether they make pattern
records available. We would also be interested in working with another
library, preferably another SIRSI site, to obtain pattern records.

I would like to know whether any of you have ever done this and have any
advice to offer, or are a SIRSI site and would be willing to discuss
being a source of pattern records for us.

thanks,
