According to Cheryl Martin:
. Thanks to everyone who responded to my orginal request for
. information about full text newspapers on CDROM. As promised
. here is a summary of the responses. Most of the respondents did
. not say whether the products mentioned were in ASCII text or full
. image unless where mentioned
.
. 1. Softline Information, Inc. has a CD product called Ethnic
. NewsWatch which provides full text coverage for 100 U.S.
. ethnic newspapers. Their address is P.O. Box 16845, Stamford,
. CT 06905, (203) 968-8878 or fax 968-2370.
.
. 2. Newsbank offers The Washington Post, Washington Times and New
. York Newsday as full text products. These were the only three
. titles mentioned.
No, no, no......Newsbank has many others, inc. Orange County Register,
St. Petersburg Times, ----Library of Congress News paper and Current
Periodical Reading Room has about 10 stations of Newsbank CDROM products.
. 3. One respondent mentioned that UMI gives full text coverage to
. seven main U.S. newspapers, however, she did not list the
. titles of the seven. Another respondent did, however, mention
. that UMI has The Washington Post, NY Times and Wall Street
. Journal on CD. These products are full text but not full
. image. Coverage is from 1990 forward. Each year is on a
. separate disc so you will need to take into consideration the
. number of disc drives available to your location when
. evaluating this product. In the past, UMI was providing some
. type of discounts to users of their microfilm products. This
. policy may or may not be in existence today.
.
. 4. ProQuest offers The NY Times on CD.
ProQuest is UMI.
. 5. Dialog Ondisc offers New York Newsday on CD.
.
. If anyone has anything to add to this list there are several of
. us out here who are interested.
.
.
. Are there any newswire services who are offering their products,
. full text, on CD?
