Display of Serials & Binding Questions

These problems have also come up in our library. We display the loose issues
of serials in alphabetical order in a special shelving area. The shelves are
sloped with storage behind for the rest of the volume.
About binding, we are a little militant because so many loose issues grow
legs and walk away. Our bindery goes out every four weeks. Our bindery
guarantees the bound volumes will be returned in four weeks. When we receive
the last issue needed for binding, the issues are pulled and sent to the
bindery. If someone needs a particular issue, they have the option of ILL or
waiting for the volume to come back. We have run into problems, but the
director backs us up on this issue. We have cut down our missing issues list
by at least 50%. Mind you the problem still pops up for discussion...but we
are still sending out bindery every four weeks.
