Subject: BBA thanks, Barcode Wands & the future
First, thanks to all who responded on the BBA question. It was
immensely helpful to have your collective experience shared with me.
At this point we're checking in on a single OPR record, have added
all the ISSNs <we hope> to the main BBA record, plus 246's for the
additional titles, & have sequenced the volume parts so that the
check-in record will show the numbers in sequence.
Let me know if any of you would like a copy of the replies or
would like a summary.
About the barcode wands... we currently use the hand-held pens
for wanding in our item records in the serials department. It is my
impression that the desk-stand model is more efficient in the
workflow than the hand- held wand. Can anyone confirm or deny this
impression? We're thinking about the possibility of upgrading or
changing some of the equipment.
What about the future of barcodes & UPC codes.... I noticed some
publishers have codes on the back of the journals that seem to
include the journal's volume number, part, date, etc. Will we be
able to use these for check-in in the future, & if so, what kind of
barcode wand/stand should we be thinking about buying?
Thanks for any information you can give...
