SERIALS LIBRARIAN POSITION - RICE UNIVERSITY
Serials librarian. Reporting to the Head of Cataloging,
coordinates serials activities with a number of other library
operations, including Reference/Collection Development, Satellite
Collections, Government Documents, Shelving, Acquisitions
(including Serials Receiving), and Database Management (including
Binding), in order to promote smooth workflow and good public
service. The serials librarian serves as the library's primary
resource person on serials cataloging, solving complex problems
and providing significant input on policy and procedural
decisions affecting serials control. The position performs
cataloging and other cataloging-related activities for serials in
the Fondren Library collections, including database and related
physical updates connected with serials changes, and oversees
special projects. The library anticipates moving to a new
integrated library system in 1995 and is actively exploring
bibliographic description and access for electronic resources,
including serials. QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS;
knowledge of AACR2, LCSH, LC classification, and MARC; working
knowledge of one or more modern European languages; good
communication, planning, and organizational skills; ability to
work without close supervision. Two years of professional or
preprofessional experience in an automated serials operation or
other relevant academic library technical services experience and
knowledge of OCLC preferred. Salary/benefits: $28,927 minimum,
commensurate with experience and qualifications; no state or
