Position announcement:  Head, Serials, John C. Pace Library, University
of West Florida

Available June 1, 1995.  Reports to Director of University Libraries.
Opportunity to develop a Serials public services component to a newly central-
ized Serials department in a new building.  Responsibilities include management
of all aspects of the Serials Department, both technical services, including
acquisitions, cataloging, and maintenance of both print and microform serials,
and public services, including patron assistance with the location and use of
serials, and with the use of microform and photocopying equipment.  Supervises
one librarian, four support staff, and student assistants.  Other responsibil-
ities include oversight of the serials budget, participation in collection
development, and monitoring serials gifts.

Qualifications include ALA-accredited MLS degree; five years professional
experience in serials work, including both technical and public services
experience, preferably in an academic library; demonstrated leadership and
teambuilding skills; strong service orientation and creativity; working
knowledge of serials automated systems; excellent interpersonal/communication
skills; basic personal computing skills; and willingness to work a flexible
schedule that includes nights and weekends.  Salary:  $33,000 - $38,000.

Environment:  The University of West Florida, one of ten institutions in the
State University System, is located on a 1,000-acre nature preserve adjacent
to the city of Pensacola.  The library, undergoing an extensive building
expansion/renovation to be completed by August, 1995, serves over 8,000
students with a collection of about 550,000 volumes and 3,200 serial
subscriptions.  A statewide NOTIS automation system, with numerous subject
databases and indexes, serves the ten state universities.
