We received the same message from our periodicals vendor. Upon checking the
latest issue of "Ecology" and finding no mention of this piggy-back, I
phoned the publisher. I was informed that it is true that we can no longer
subscribe only to the journal we want but must pay for and house an extra
title which probably is not good enough to get its own subscribers. It looks
as if the societies are going to be following the lead of the commercial
STM publishers. I told the society I would contact the involved department
and suggest cancellation of the whole package. The person representing the
society was unconcerned, no doubt feeling that like STM's they have a
captive subscriber list.
