estimating the cost of withdrawn periodical volumes Mary Wepking -- UW-Platteville Library 16 Sep 1994 16:25 UTC

For the purpose of a valuation report, we need to estimate the value of the
bound periodicals we withdrew during the past fiscal year. For books, av,
etc., we use current prices--even on old items, but for bound periodicals, I
have a difficult time using a current average subscription price from the
Bowker Annual (about $150 per subscription). We withdrew bound volumes of
_Children's Digest_ and the like, for which the subscription cost 30 years ago
may have been $3.95.

Does anyone out there have to report these sort of figures, and if so, what
value do you place on OLD, bound periodicals? I'd appreciate any responses on
this matter, even those that say "We just guess and say 20 bucks." :)

Respond to me...I will summarize for the list if the response warrants.
