MULTICULTURALISM IN LIBRARIES
FUNDAMENTAL SERVICE OR FRIVOLOUS FAD?
The controversial subject of multiculturalism will be the focus of an
October 28, 1994 conference entitled "Multiculturalism in Libraries:
Fundamental Service of Frivolous Fad?" Dinesh D'Souza, author of
_Illiberal Education: The Politics of Race and Sex on Campus_, and Althea
Jenkins, Executive Director of the Association of College and Research
Libraries, will be the featured speakers at the event, to be held at Rose
State College's Tom Steed Center. Primary sponsors of the conference
are the Oklahoma chapter of the Association of College and Research
Libraries, and the College and University Division of the Oklahoma
Library Association.
The day long conference will explore multiculturalism, the effort to
recognize the contributions of different social, cultural and language
groups in society. The featured speakers at the confernece, Althea
Jenkins and Dinesh D'Souza, are both well-known speakers on
multiculturalism.
The Oklahoma Association of College and Research Libraries is a
chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries, the
premier membership organization for librarians employed in college or
research libraries. The Association of College and Research Libraries is
a division of the American Library Association, the largest and oldest
national library association in the world. The Oklahoma Library
Association is a state-wide library association with members from a
variety of libraries within the state of Oklahoma. Its College and
University Division serves librarians employed in college and university
libraries in Oklahoma.
