                       POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITIONS:  Two cataloging librarian positions available.

(1) SERIALS CATALOG LIBRARIAN  (new position)
Responsibilities:  Perform original and copy cataloging of serials.
Maintain bibliographic and local data records on OCLC and CARL. Oversee
the physical processing and conversion of serial titles. Revise work
of other staff as needed. Assist in the training of new staff. Perform
other duties as assigned.  Qualifications:  Required:  ALA-MLS. One year
of professional library experience.  Desirable:  Experience with AACR2rev,
LCRI, LCSH, DDC, RLIN.  Experience in cataloging serials on OCLC and
knowledge of MARC formats.  Reading knowledge of a foreign language.

(2) CATALOG LIBRARIAN  (MUSIC AND A/V EMPHASIS)
Responsibilities:  Perform original and copy cataloging of print and
non-print materials, primarily music and audiovisual materials. Maintain
bibliographic and local data records on OCLC and CARL. Revise work of other
staff as needed. Assist in the training of new staff. Perform other duties
as assigned.  Qualifications:  Required:  ALA-MLS. One year of professional
library experience.  Desirable:  Experience with AACR2rev, LCRI, LCSH, DDC,
RLIN.  Experience in cataloging music and audiovisual materials on OCLC
strongly preferred.  Reading knowledge of a foreign language.

CATALOGING AT HOUSTON PUBLIC

The HPL Catalog Department consists of a staff of 14 outstanding people.
Catalogers workstations are available to all members of the Department.
Members of the Department have full access to the Internet.  Librarians
are encouraged to participate in professional activities at the
state and national levels, and are given financial support in these
endeavors.

BOTH POSITIONS:  Salary range: $27,000 to $37,000 dependent upon
qualifications and experience.
