Thanks very much to all of you who positively responded to my query. My
colleague and I have been working together for about 15 hours
thus far, and I was hoping to avoid doing her job for a while,
since I have 30 others reporting to me. Just to clarify, we are automated,
via Faxon's Microlinx standalone workstation and we will have all
our seriodicals moved into our opac by July 1995. Students check in
all our periodicals, and checkin problems are sent to another
staff person (not the claiming clerk) for handling. Our current claims
technician is at the second highest level technicians can attain in
our library. She has an enormous wealth of experience to draw
upon, but I get the feeling we are focusing on the exceptions and
problems and not handling claims in as timely a fashion as we could.
Thanks again for all your advice.
