JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION TITLE: LIBRARIAN III
DIVISION: TENNESSEE STATE LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES, TECHNICAL
SERVICES SECTION
JOB SUMMARY: The Tennessee State Library and Archives
is seeking a responsible and knowledgeable person to
manage the functions of the Documents and Serials group, a
unit of the Technical Services Section. This government
agency, located in the State Capitol area of Nashville,
Tennessee, serves a broad constituency including state
government, the Tennessee General Assembly, and historical
and genealogical researchers. The Technical Services
section is responsible for acquiring, processing, and
maintaining all library, archival, and manuscript
collections.
DUTIES INCLUDE: Serves as liaison with subscription
service; reviews all orders for periodicals, serials,
newspapers, government documents and state documents;
supervises check-in, distribution and shelving of serials
and documents from other states; oversees preparation of
Tennessee newspapers for microfilming; directs all bindery
activities; catalogs federal documents and maintains records
for documents as required under the Federal Depository
program; monitors shelving of print material and assumes
responsibility for stacks maintenance; trains staff in
processing procedures; compiles statistical reports of
section activities.
REQUIRED: The successful candidate must have a
master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited
college or university, and experience equivalent to four
years of professional library work; should possess
considerable knowledge of state and federal documents,
periodicals and serials processing, AACR-2 cataloging
rules, LC classification system, and the Superintendent of
Documents classification system. Prior supervisory
experience and the ability to adapt to and work
effectively in a changing, diverse, and automated
environment is preferred.
HIRING RANGE: $2,383 - $2,560; full state benefits
package.
