Subject: training technicians

I have never had to train a library technician to perform work in
serials. We have been blessed with a technician with years and
years of experience and knowledge, however she will depart the
library at the end of August. We have a technician with only
months of experience in a library but absolutely no training in
the why of library operations. She does know how to use our
system to check the serials in but no concept of what is behind
all this work.

My question : What do you suggest as resource material to help me
give her a grounding in serials, in the concepts, in the why as
well as the how?

I know there is a series of books written for the technicians.
Is the serials part helpful? What about the journals? Should I
do some kind of search in LISA? Do you have a training plan you
are willing to share?

Any and all suggestions will be gratefully received.
