The CPSO/CCC Task Group on LC-Issued Descriptive Cataloging
Documentation issued its interim report at the ALA Annual
Conference in Miami.  The Task Group has so far produced a five-
page statement "Philosophy, Purpose, Rationale for Creating RIs",
a census of all the RIs with some simple statistical analyses,
and an action plan for the remainder of its work.  One of the
next steps is to review the RIs, portion by portion, for possible
retention as is, improvement in content and/or clarity, or
removal.  We will start with chapters 1 and 2.  If you have any
comments on those RIs, please send them to me by August 29, 1994
for consideration by the Task Group.  Due to the expected volume
of response, we cannot reply individually to each contributor.

this message to any other appropriate lists or individuals.
