Arlene Farber Sirkin, President, Washington Resource Consulting
Group, Inc. (Washington, DC) presents the keynote address on
successful teambuilding. Ms Sirkin blends theoretical and practical
ideas to help library managers at all levels to create and utilize
teams to maximum effectiveness in a resource reduction economy. She
holds an MLS degree from Columbia and an MBA degree from the
Wharton School.
Responses from academic and public library perspectives explore
teambuilding's promises/ realities and pragmatism/ process. Robert
C. Miller, Director, University Libraries, University of Notre Dame
offers "Teams: Expectations, Realities, and Bridging the Gap."
Next, Lynn Lockwood, Manager, Essex Branch Library, Baltimore
County Public Library System offers "Pragmatism and Process: How
Theory and Practice Came Together At Baltimore County Public
Library."
Ms Sirkin, who is featured in a new ALA/LVN-produced videorecording
entitled, "Is the Customer Always Right?," has donated a copy to be
awarded by drawing during the program. (NOTE: a voucher will be
issued, if the video is yet unavailable.) A preview of the video
can be seen at the ALA Video Network booth. Ms. Sirkin has spoken
for a wide variety of library audiences, including ALA, SLA,
Canadian Library Association, European Business Information
Conference and recently presented the keynote for Simmons Library
School Alumni Assoc.
As expected, MMDG will hold a lively Q & A period following the
addresses.
