I am contemplating a similar project. If you come up with something, even
a summary of responses, you would care to share, please include me. I work
in Serials in a small college library with several Master's programs. I
am relatively new to the serials world, having taken this job as a graduate
of the U. of I. GSLIS last November. I had worked with serials
paraprofessionally and had other qualifications relating to a second area
of responsibility (automation). I am finding one of my biggest challenges to
be the management of the paraprofessional staff of 2,
one of whom was trained by a non-professional and has been doing bindery
and claiming for 8 years the same way.
My own ideas include a lot of continuing education, but it is hard to
find good workshops on the topics we need. I would like to change some things
and would like to tie in those objectives to the job description and
performance appraisal.
