Subject: A new journal, SOCIAL POLITICS, and its electronic discussion group
The University of Illinois Press is responding to new trends in gender and
social policy research by inaugurating a new journal and a companion online
discussion group.
SOCIAL POLITICS: INTERNATIONAL STUDIES IN GENDER, STATE, AND SOCIETY is an
international, interdisciplinary, English-language journal that will serve
as a forum for exciting research in gender and women's studies. Public
responsibility for social welfare, family relationships, and gender
equality is being renegotiated worldwide. SOCIAL POLITICS is designed to
meet the increased interest in gender and social policy, citizenship, and
the role of states in constructing and organizing relations in the family,
workplace, and society.
To this end, SOCIAL POLITICS and the University of Illinois Press have
also launched an online discussion group to complement and extend the
discussions in the journal. Within six hours of announcing this new list,
SOCPOL-L, we had over 100 subscribers (from five different countries) to
the list!
SOCPOL-L is an unmoderated list. You do not have to be a subscriber to the
journal to be a member of the list. Discussion topics for the list are the
same as those for the journal. The list is not an online version of the
journal, but forthcoming articles and abstracts will be posted on the list.
The response to the list has been quite exciting and the list has generated
more interest in the journal. If you wish to have a brochure and/or a sample
copy of the first issue of the journal (hot off the press), please send
your name and address by email to: m-tower@uiuc.edu
If you would like to subscribe to the online discussion group, SOCPOL-L, send
the following message by email to
listserv@vmd.cso.uiuc.edu
The message should read: sub SOCPOL-L Your Name
Substitute your real name for Your Name and leave the subject line blank.
Thanks for taking time to read about this new venture. We are excited
about the possibilities and wanted to share this with others.
