POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION: Cataloging Librarian
Exempt, full time
REPORTS TO: Manager, Technical Services
JOB SUMMARY: Using an integrated library system, the incumbent will
catalog all types of library materials, including serials,
data files and some foreign language materials in subject
areas related to RAND research; assign Library of Congress
subject headings and classify books using LC
classification schedules; oversee descriptive cataloging;
assist with authority work; perform other duties as
assigned. Incumbent will also assist in the coordination
of cataloging procedures with the implementation of the
ILS acquisitions module.
EDUCATION: M.L.S. from accredited library school.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year of original cataloging experience
in a research or special library environment; familiarity
with searching online bibliographic tools such as RLIN or
OCLC; knowledge of LC classification and subject headings,
AACR2 and MARC format; experience with Windows
workstation.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to
communicate with staff at all levels; self-motivated;
computer-oriented with the flexibility to adapt to a
rapidly changing automated environment.
Experience in cataloging serials, technical reports, maps,
electronic materials or data files, experience with DTIC,
reading knowledge of an Asian language desirable.
Experience in other areas of technical services a plus.
SALARY: $30,000 MINIMUM
