What we're dealing with in our current discussion of serial uniform titles
is an LC rule interpretation, not a rule. In my original 3-message posting
I mentioned that in passing.

Last night when I got home, I realized that I've never actually looked at
the RULE, so I took my home copy of the old AACR2 out and looked it up.
I was really surprised! It's quite brief, and the word "serial" doesn't
appear in it. Just to be sure, when I came in this morning to work, I
checked my copy of AACR2 1988 revision; no "serial" there, either (I remember
Rolfe said let's get rid of that *rule* so I thought I'd check it out).
We're definitely dealing with an LCRI.
