RESPONSIBILITIES: Directs the development and ongoing maintenance of the
library's 9,500 serials records in NOTIS and OCLC, through planning,
development, and implementation of Technical Services programs and projects.
Performs original cataloging of serials; assists in training and supervision of
support staff in bibliographic searching, database maintenance, copy catalog-
ing, authority control, check-in, claims, and binding; maintains departmental
statistics and produces reports as required. May participate in staffing
public reference desk, including evening/weekend rotation. Reports to Techni-
cal and Automated Services Coordinator. Supervises five full-time support
staff and one FTE student assistant.
REQUIRED: MLS from ALA-accredited program; demonstrated competency in LC
classification and subject headings, AACR2 and MARC formats, and OCLC or
other bibliographic utility, either through coursework or experience; under-
standing of serials management issues; strong interpersonal, oral and
written communication skills; familiarity with computer applications/integrated
systems in libraries; flexibility to adapt to a frequently changing environ-
ment.
PREFERRED: Successful supervisory experience; experience in an academic
library; experience with word processing and spread sheets.
SALARY & BENEFITS: $23,700-$37,920 commensurate with qualifications and
experience. 12-month appointment with 24 annual vacation days, 13 annual
sick-leave days, and TIAA/CREF or State of Michigan retirement.
