Position: Coordinator, Automated Library Systems
Available: March 1994
Responsibilities
The Coordinator of Automated Library Systems is a tenure track faculty rank
position and will be responsible for a broad range of library automation
related to the mainframe, personal computers, CD-ROMs, LANs, and other
automated systems. Specific responsibilities will include overseeing the
operation and maintenance of current systems; day-to-day trouble shooting;
investigation of broad operation problems; documentation review and analysis;
communication with vendors, installers, and visitors; development and
interpretation of vendor and system specifications; participation in library-
wide planning and development; installation assistance; development of
procedures and manuals; recommending and conducting staff training; and
supervision of other personnel.
The Coordinator will serve as system administrator for the Novell LAN and
will serve as liaison with the Computer Center for all aspects of library
automation, including mainframe and LAN applications.
The Coordinator will report to the Associate University Librarian and
will participate in: Library Administrative Council, Automation Committee,
Microcomputer User's Group, Library Faculty Meetings and other committees
as appropriate. Participation in research and professional activities is
expected.
Qualifications
The minimum requirement for appointment to a tenure track faculty position is
an ALA-accredited master's degree in library science or a master's degree
in computer science or related field. Substantial hands-on experience with
a variety of automated library applications (software and hardware) is
required; this may include mainframes, personal computers, CD-ROMs, wide-
area networks and Novell local area networks. Working knowledge of MARC
machine readable records is necessary. Other qualifications include: proven
managerial and organizational ability; strong interpersonal skills;
demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to a broad range
of audiences; experience in supervision and training; and ability to work
effectively in a team setting.

Salary and Rank
Salary Range: $35,000 - $40,000 for twelve months. Salary and faculty rank
are dependent upon qualifications and experience.
