Virginia Newspaper Project, Senior Cataloger
Virginia State Library and Archives, Richmond, Virginia
Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the Senior Cataloger
for the Virginia Newspaper Project, under a National Endowment
for the Humanities grant and in cooperation with several major
state universities. Directs daily cataloging, cataloging
support and union listing activities. Catalogs newspaper
titles by applying knowledge of AACR2 cataloging rules, LC rule
interpretations, CONSER guidelines, OCLC standards, and NEH
requirements. Records holdings and location information on
OCLC; reviews and revises original cataloging by all teams.
Assists with microfilming, preservation and statistics.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: ALA-accredited MLS; strong interpersonal skills;
cataloging experience with MARC serials format and AACR2.
Preferred: Relevant experience with bibliographic utilities
and newspaper cataloging.
Salary range: $23,505 - $35,888.
OTHER INFORMATION:
Full-time position for duration of project (funded through
December 1994 for the current grant). Twelve days annual
leave, fifteen days sick leave, eleven paid holidays annually.

annual performance evaluation. Usual working hours 8:15 -
5:00, Monday through Friday.
