Re: Absolut Vodka ads; Security alert Mary Youmans 13 Aug 1993 16:20 UTC

We have not experienced the Absolut Vodka Ad problem that we know of; however,
we have had to deal with other tempting covers and features. If the title is
to be replaced later by mfilm, we will "x" over with the shiny scotch tape--we
always do this with the swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated. We also always
make a photocopy of this section to insert in case someone takes the shiny
tape and all. I believe we have not needed these photocopy replacement pages
in a couple of years. We have also taken the ownership "stamp in strategic
spots" to new heights when we get really inspired.

The Playboy problem--we no longer have either a subscription to the paper or
the microfilm and have discarded all the film backfiles we did have which was
the black and white film edition selected to discourage mutilation and theft.
The paper subscription turned out to be stolen the same day it arrived. The
microfilm was not stolen but mutilated--choice frames were removed, we assume
to make 35mm slides. Mutilation of this film was pretty much limited to the
summer months when we have a number of programs for middle and high school
aged students. We blamed the mutilation on these students and each year
removed the film from the cabinets. Despite this, it became so spliced
together it was an embarassment so we discarded from our collection.
