Subject: ISSN and Serial Identification

When I read Nancy Chaffin's note about the serial _Code One_ which changed
subtitle/issuing body, I was struck by the fact that if only it had been
printing an ISSN (which would have remained unchanged), the question of
identity would have been resolved. I will contact Eric Hehs at Lockheed
and suggest that if he will send us an issue of _Code One_, NSDP can
assign an ISSN and update the record to include Lockheed's name as well.
Not only might Lockheed be spared some phone calls, but future identity
problems for this serial might hopefully be forestalled.

If you have occasion to speak to a publisher who does not have an ISSN,
especially in the case of a title which could easily be duplicated, please
encourage that publisher to obtain an ISSN from NSDP.

Nancy:
It would help if the publisher put the ISSN on the publication, so that
identification would be easier. (If it doesn't have an ISSN, I'm sure
they would appreciate learning about the advantages of getting one.)
