One thing I have done in the past with covers is to stamp a very
visible place (such as Farrah Faucett's face or teeth) with our
University property stamp. That takes all the fun out of it, and
also discourages the mutilation! Vickey Baumli

We, too have the exact same problem with the Absolut Vodka ads on ArtNews
magazine. Stickers seem to be working. I guess this is truly a national
phenomenon.

At Mary Washington College we have a similar problem but with journals
that have naked, or near naked, ladies on the covers often in
provocative situations. Our problem journals are Panorama, Stern,
occasionally Paris Match and the Swim Suit issue of Sports Illustrated.
The covers and/or inner pages often dissappear. So we end up making a
dummy cover with the title and date on it. I've pondered for a long
time what to do about this as we can all guess why these covers are
being taken off.
I'm very curious to see responses and suggestions. Until then, I can
only hope to catch someone in the act until and if we can find a
solution to this problem. Thanks! Tammy Hefner, Serials Assist.
