serials study/cancellation project Dianna Magoni 03 Aug 1993 18:52 UTC

I am a new member of the list and must apologize if this topic has
been beat to death. Our library, which is a medium sized academic library,
is going to begin a serials evaluation and cancellation project. I am
currently collecting articles from a LISA search, but would like to hear from
those "in the trenches." For those libraries who carried out this sort of
project, could you please share your experiences with me? I am interested
in method, tools, involvement of faculty/students, time involved, problems,
results, and particular successes or failures. Any information would be
appreciated, and, if for some reason this is not an old topic for this
list, I will gladly summarize.

        Thanks in advance!

ed. note: To Dee, et al., It's been discussed and there are related
messages in SERIALST's archives (within the last year) that can be found
with a search through the message database. There are also various citations
to journal literature in some of the earlier messages. There is also
a recent article by Anna L. Price and Kjestine R. Carey, "Serials
Use Study Raises Questions About Cooperative Ventures," in Serials
Review 19:no.3 (Fall 1993): 79-84.

More discussion and commentary would be welcome. -- bml
