For several years now, we have had a problem the the disappearance of
back pages of selected magazines.  With the removal of the back cover, the
front cover floots about the library.  We've discovered the the missing cover
has an ad for Absolut Vodka.  These ads come in a wide variety of
styles and are quite creative, but also seem to be collectibles for
student dorm walls.  The periodicals range from AMERICAN FILM (now
ceased) to ARTFORUM and HORTICULTURE.

We are beginning to paste large stickers on the ads to discourage theft.
Are other libraries have similar problems?  Any suggestions for help?
I do serve on the University Discipline Committee as a judge, and I've always
recommended the use of capital punishment for library vandalism (just
kidding - I'm not allowed to serve any case dealing with library issues -
- and there hasn't been any in several years).
