Subject: Uniform titles for serials

Regarding the suggestion to assign uniform titles to IEEE conference
proceedings I would like to mention that the distinction needs to be
made between uniform titles that make serials unique (qualifiers such
as place or body etc.) and uniform titles that bring together (collocate)
serial titles (such as uniform titles for translations). In the case of
IEEE proceedings, the use of a uniform title would be the collocating
type, such as uniform titles for serial translations. It is my understanding
that there was discussion at ALA to finally do away with this type of
uniform title for serials, which has been needed for quite some time.
In the case of collocating for titles that all mean the same thing (e.g.
Proceedings, Record, Digest), we may need to make an exception. I personally
think it is a great suggestion.
