Subject: Serials crisis
This is my first posting, please bear with me. I am a student of the
Information and Library Science School-UNC-Chapel Hill. Presently, I am
doing a research project on how the rising cost and increasing number of
serials publications are affecting Collection development at large
academic libraries. I would appreciate any input (information?
suggestions? Opinions?) about how Universities are dealing with this. Areas I
am probing are how to figure out the different needs of the different
disciplines, the ratio of monographs to serials each discipline utilizes,
and, when cutting spending, how do you decide how much money from each
discipline.
Any help would be welcome. Ideally, If you could point me in the right
direction, a bit of guidance from those in the field, would be most
helpful. Thank you for your patience and time. If you are interested in
the results of my research, the project should be completed late in August
or early in September, and I would be more than happy to E-mail a copy.
