Several people have responded to my question, both on the net and
personally to use TN3270 when connecting through telnet to EBSCONET.
I have tried this with mixed results. Unfortunately, this places the
cursor about 3 lines down from where it ACTUALLY is, so that if you
attempt to move it to the "correct" line, you get this "protected field"
message and then can't get out of it unless you disconnect and start all
over. The problem really occurs when you are in some menu like help, try
to get out of it, get the "incorrect" message and then can't get out of
it, even to quit. It is really frustrating to the point where I do not
feel confident in demonstrating this to our selectors to use. The
selectors would use it on a very infequent basis, and if I am having this
much trouble after reading the manual and making numerous calls to the
support numbers, our selectors will surely be lost and not find it useable.
I have talked to both EBSCONET people and our computer center's support
people and each points the finger at the other.
I have just called EBSCO (again) to see if they can do any better at
getting this to work.
I will let you know if we ever get it to work properly.
