We have both a laser scanner and a wand and we used the portable bar code
reader (Intermec) for inventory purposes.  The person who did the scanning
preferred the wand and used it almost exclusively.  It was lighter to carry
around and it was easier to use when the material was not all facing the same
direction.  The laser scanner needed the material to be flat and straight on.
