Portable barcode scanners for use studies
RICK RALSTON, IU MED. LIB., 274-1409 01 Jun 1993 22:17 UTC
Our library is preparing to purchase a portable barcode scanner in order to
automate our periodicals usage study. Our bound serial volumes already have
barcodes and we plan to put barcodes on the shelves to represent current issues.
Our journals do not circulate and users are instructed not to reshelve. Our
intent is to have the reshelvers scan the volumes as they are reshelved and
dump the data into a Paradox database of our journals. We are particularly
interested in the pros and cons of laser scanners and wand scanners for this
application.
