Isn't there some ruling by the US Postal Service allowing you to keep,
free of charge, any unsolicited (and unordered) material, in cases such
as this?  I seem to recall Warren, Gorham & Lamont following a similar
practice, and the library was under no obligation to pay them or even
return the material.  Maybe our law library friends are more up to speed
on the legalities.  I agree with your position that the library should
not incur any expense to return the set.
