Unnumbered series cataloguing LIBR007@CSC.CANTERBURY.AC.NZ 01 Apr 1993 01:27 UTC

Greetings from down under.
I would like to know whether serials cataloguers on this list
sometimes catalogue unnumbered series as serials. We receive an unnumbered
and undated monographic series which we cannot justify having catalogued
individually as monographs because each "number" is insubstantial,
so we would like to make a serial record for the series. The series is
clearly ongoing and regular so is it legitimate to make a serial record?
The note following the criteria for serials treatment (CSB 44, p.25 12.0A)
seems to allow some exceptions. If it is ok, how do I indicate designation?
and has anyone an example of an explanatory numbering note? I will summarise
for the list if responses warrant.

would appreciate a name or signature attached to messages that contributors
send to the list -- in order that potential respondents might know who to

subscriber list) is: Peter Hosking (country domain: New Zealand). --bml]
