POSITION TITLE: Serials Cataloger, CONSER Office, Harvard University Library
The CONSER Office is a part of the Harvard University Library and
is responsible for coordinating the contribution of 35 Harvard units
to the national CONSER Program.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of Head of the CONSER Office, the
serials cataloger prepares bibliographic records for serials in hard copy,
microform, and other formats for those Harvard units which have their serials
cataloged centrally; edits bibliographic records prepared by decentralized
units to insure uniformity of Harvard's contribution to the CONSER Program;
prepares and edits NACO records associated with Harvard's CONSER
responsibilities. The serials cataloger is responsible for consulting with
technical services staff throughout the University on serials cataloging
issues and identifying areas where further training or skill up-dating
would be appropriate. May have a role in the University serials RECON
project; coordinates the workflow in the CONSER Office and performs
other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree from an ALA accredited library school;
minimum two years experience as a serials cataloger; thorough knowledge of
MARC serials and authority formats, AACR2, LC RI's and LC subject heading
practices. Working knowledge of two western European languages required.
Strong interpersonal skills to work with a variety of staff throughout the
University and commitment to participation in a team environment. Familiarity
with MARC holdings format, CONSER and NACO guidelines, OCLC, HOLLIS, and
pre-AACR2 serials cataloging rules desirable.
COMPENSATION: Salary range is: $29,120-$37,856. Excellent benefits.
