We have been using the 2 pile / 2 side system successfully since August 1988
while checking in journals on LS/2000.  We have a smallish right hand side with
the journals waiting for check-in (our check-in person is right-handed) and
supplies such as pens, bar codes, ownership stickers, scissors, and shelving
location dots.  After the item is checked in, it is moved to the larger left-
hand side for final processing including date stamping and security stripping.
