Electronic mail addresses for journal editors Edward Vielmetti 06 Aug 1992 06:17 UTC

Hi. First I want to thank those who sent in comments on my e journals
query, the notes have been useful and I expect to get a WAIS server based
on that information going within a month or two.

After considering the problem somewhat I realized that there might be
a middle ground between all-electronic journals and all-paper journals,
ie. the situation where some or all of the editors or the publisher of
the journal are on line. A quick perusal of the shelves of several small
technical corporate libraries showed a reasonable fraction of journals
listing either an internet, compuserve, or mcimail address for editors,
and some go so far as to print the author's address right along with each
article.

What I've started to do is to collect an e-mail address and name (either
corporate name like editor@journal.org or personal name like jjbloggs@foo.edu)
for serials as I note them, and collect at the same time an ISSN number
and the publisher. A goal is to get a large enough sample to make the
assessment on a field-by-field basis how much the general population is on
line. I'm also trying to watch for serials that might have related works
published all electronically.

The favor I would like to ask is a small one. If you see a journal go
past you look at it for an e-mail address of someone who might be in the
role of editor, note it down along with the issue you found it in and the
ISSN, and drop me a line with the results at "emv@cic.net". I will bundle
up the results I get and post them back to the list. Anyone who wants
single copies of the work I have to date please ask.

thanks,
